As its name implies, the Independent Comedy Club in Hamtramck is run by comics for comics. The club is inside Ant Hall, part of Planet Ant Theatre, and has shows every Friday and Saturday. According to a press release from Ilitch Companies, the Detroit House of Comedy will be patterned after Laugh Boston and the Plano House of Comedy in Texas. Modeled after Laugh Boston, Detroit House of Comedy features a cabaret set up, but with an emphasis on improving sight lines to the stage from every seat in the room. Comedy fans will still enjoy the intimacy of a 300-seat club complete with tables and servers. However, departing from the typical level-flooring throughout the room, seats are dispersed across 6 different levels, cascading downward towards the stage in an amphitheater-like design that should not disappoint.

Detroit House of Comedy — part of a group of comedy venues across North America — made its debut last weekend with a showcase of local stand-ups. In the next few weeks the 300-seat club, located inside Hockeytown Cafe at 2301 Woodward, will host stand-up comedians Hans Kim, Detroit's own Jeff Horste and former "Saturday Night Live" player Sasheer Zamata. While stars like Ellen Degeneres, Drew Carrey, Soupy Sales, and Chris Titus have performed in this Ann Arbor hot spot, the comedy club is devoted to providing a platform to up-and-coming performers, too. Rolling Stone magazine referred to the showcase as “one of the best clubs between the coasts.” In addition to scheduled talent, Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase also hosts weekly open mic nights.
